World Day of Consecrated Life

Today  February 2, the Church celebrates the Presentation of the Lord. This is where the parents of Jesus, 8 days after His birth, took Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord in the temple.

On this day also is the World Day of Consecrated Life – the culmination of the Year of Consecrated Life. It is a day of rejoicing and prayer when God chooses men and women for a particular purpose.  In a life consecrated to God, they are particularly following Christ who is chaste, poor, and obedient to the Father. We thank the Lord for the gift of vocations to consecrated life and pray that those called to such a life may joyfully live the Gospel.

Let us continue to renew daily our faith and commitment to the Lord:

Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life

O God,
throughout the ages you have called women and men
to pursue lives of perfect charity
through the evangelical counsels of
poverty, chastity, and obedience.

During this Year of Consecrated Life,
we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of
Faith and models of inspiration.
Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us
to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you.

Continue to enrich your Church
by calling forth sons and daughters who,
having found the pearl of great price,
treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.

Amen.
(Pope Francis)
