During the Christmas Novena, each day for 9 days we, the Daughters of Divine Zeal, do the following: Advent song, a reflection on the theme of the day, prayer to the Virgin Mary and to St. Joseph, Word from the Scripture and presentation of the symbol to be placed at the foot of the Altar.
Please feel welcome to join us in spirit and prayer.
Fifth Day of the Novena: O Key of David
Vigilant in prayer, exultant in praise and with lamp lighted, let us go and meet the spouse who is to come.
While proceeding in our journey towards Bethlehem, the face of salvation is being revealed: Jesus Key of the Kingdom. “He is the foundation and the centre of the history. He is the meaning and the ultimate end. His Incarnation constitutes the pulsating heart of time, the mysterious time wherein the Kingdom of God is made near” (cf. Novo Millenio Ineunte, Apostolic Letter,2001,5). Mary in her “here I am” has given the permission to the Incarnation of the Word and has opened the door of communion with God. With her let us prepare our heart for the coming of the Son. St. Annibale Maria reminds us: “This is what it means that Jesus was made a Child. This means He was made bread. With trust, therefore, let us invoke Him: my Jesus, if You were crazy in Your love for me, I would like to be crazy in Your love for me, I would like to be crazy with my love for You. I would like to love You desperately”. ( cf. Writings Annibale Maria di Francia. vol.11, pp.155-156)
Let us ask the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin and St. Joseph to welcome Jesus, Key of David:
O Immaculate Virgin Mary,
O venerable St. Joseph,
we beg your help in preparing all the items needed
for he coming birth of the Incarnate Word
in the stable of Bethlehem.
He desires to find hearts which
welcome, clothe, warm and comfort Him. (St. Annibale Maria)
Reading: Isaiah 9: 5-6
Symbol: In the stable of Bethlehem we plan to prepare the swaddling clothes made of purest linen, finely prepared and woven, to tighten gently the loving God, born a child. (The swaddling clothes are prepared by reciting of the “Hail Holy Queen” for all those who are suffering.)
Prayer: God, Good and Omnipotent Father, in Your Son you have given us peace, grant us today to be builders of peace, to bring into reality Your plan of redemption. We ask this in the name of Christ our Lord.
Invocation: Let us repeat often during the day: “O Child Jesus, You are our God, our Lord, our King.”
Model of waiting: The Magi Kings
The magi were the first from the nations who welcomed in the Child Jesus, the good news of salvation. Let us renew in our hearts the missionary anxiety and the zeal for the glory of God and the salvation of all souls. (United in Prayer, pp.86-88)
