Christ is our teacher

Last week (05 October) we celebrated World Teachers’ Day.  It is interesting to know about how Jesus is as a teacher.  We have much confidence in believing because He shows us the right way, the truth and life. He is a perfect role-model teacher, a master educator who witnesses with much authority in what He preaches, whether it is in the synagogue or out in the fields. His days on earth spoke much about the way He lives his life.

Jesus is the prime example of a dedicated, committed, creative and brilliant educator because His teaching is full of wisdom, reaching into the hearts of many people. He is the best teacher. His method of teaching the Apostles, His followers – including us today – is applicable and relevant for lives present, future and eternal. He makes life beautiful and worthy to live to the fullest. As well as teaching us the right and just way, Jesus teaches us with a heart full of zeal, compassion and mercy. His school is a school of love that leads His students to love God foremost and to love one another:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”(John 13:34)

His method of teaching is more effective because He preaches about what He has lived. That is why He has many followers, keeping in touch with Him even to this day, because He has the words of eternal life. We listen and are challenged to live His words. Jesus teaches us about the Kingdom of God, the commandment to love God and neighbour, about salvation, sacrifice, mercy, compassion, kindness, and so much more. To capture the attention of His Apostles and His followers, among His methods of teaching are the telling of stories – the parables – so that it is easier for His disciples and His followers to better understand what His teaching of love is all about.  He gives immediate attention to those who are in most need. The saints or holy people who have been inspired by Him have adopted His teaching and they have applied them to their daily life journey. The message of His teaching is centred on love. Learning the wisdom of God’s love is His legacy and a call to us to fully live as God intended.

A huge part of His teaching that is an important thing for us to be reminded of is the prayer life. Jesus always has time for His prayer before anything else.  He starts His daily routine and ends His day’s work with prayer so that He is always connected to His Father in heaven.

Let us thank Jesus the master teacher for teaching us the way to live in His love and to find time in prayer.
