To be with the beloved is a wonderful feeling because both of you enjoy each other’s presence. You don’t want that time to come to an end, and you don’t know how the time passes by so quickly. It is also the same experience with God when you feel the moment when He is so close to you – you believe that He is real and alive in your life. Keeping the faith is wanting His very presence. It is inspiring that God is there for us 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. He is always with us.
The apostles Peter, James and John enjoyed Jesus’ presence and experienced awe and wonder in the Transfiguration story, where Jesus brought them to the mountain to pray. Peter suggested to Jesus to build a tent and stay there because they deeply felt joy and how wonderful it was to be with Jesus:
Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. (Luke 9:33)
When we feel God is there we want to stay and continue contemplating Him, enjoying that very precious and intimate moment. Staying with Jesus is His call to us to be with Him, to put our mind, heart and soul before Him only. This is not happening only in our prayer time but in our daily activities and commitments where we encounter God. To be with Him is to focus our attention on Him, and contemplating God in our life is to be like Him in the way we think, speak, feel and do good for Him. Our desire is to remain in Him, for Him, and be with Him because we enjoy His presence and His love for us.
