Christmas in our hearts

For us Christians, the highlight of December is the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ- the Emmanuel, God-is-with-us – the best ever gift that God the Father has given to us, His only Son. In the liturgical year, during the season of Christmas, there are a lot of important feasts days to celebrate starting with the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, followed by the Nativity of the Lord, Holy Family, The Holy Innocents, Mary Mother of God, Epiphany and Baptism of the Lord.  Each of these help us to ponder the mystery of Christ’s life.

Christmas is a very colourful celebration with various joyful hymns, decorations, including many kinds and styles of lights, plenty of food at parties, the exchange of gifts, and the preparation of different Nativity Scenes.  It is a time so full of initiatives and activities, including doing acts of charity in those areas of most need.  As we celebrate Christmas, people are more kind, charitable,  generous in any sorts of gift giving.

It is the spirit of Christmas that Christ is the best ever gift among the gifts and we symbolically express this in giving gifts too in many different ways. There is always joy in giving and receiving gifts, hoping that everyday is Christmas because it is ultimately a celebration of life and love. It is good to live in the spirit of Christmas everyday, recognising that Christ is born for us. He dwells in our heart, He is our joy – the joy that is within as the outcome of His great love for us. We are happy if we realise that He is among us, with us and in us. Our heart continues to sing for joy and we are filled with His love when celebrating the true spirit of Christmas.

Happy Christmas To All!
