“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine”. (Is. 43: 1)
We are in God’s mind before we are even born. Our existence has been planned by God and yet He still gives us the freedom choose what He want us to be.
The name that we have speaks of our own identity so that people recognize our own uniqueness and giftedness as a person. Each name has its corresponding deeper meaning with a mission. Our parents choose the name which is best for us to convey something positive, meaningful and significant in our life.
Since we are in the mind of God, He is calling us by name for a purpose in life. Our name is sacred and it is good to hear it when it is pronounced well and with a great respect. It is a sweet sounding tone to one’s ears and a delight to listen to in our heart.
Unfortunately, even though unthinkable, there are people who love to bully others through their names… why do they appear to love doing this? Instead of respecting the person they seem to be happier when they succeed in their bullying, seeing that person become upset, hurt or crying.
Let us be reminded that our names are sacred and that they are always respected because each name connotes the significance of our being and, above all, reminds us of God the Creator who loves us and calls each one of us by name. Our name connects us to God because we are made in His own image. He is the source of our life and He entirely loves us.
Let us also be reminded that if we are disrespectful and we hurt others we, too, do the same to God because we and the other are reflection of God’s own image. Every miserable thing that happens in our life, each droplet of tears that falls from our eyes, every pain that afflicts our heart … do not worry – God knows about it because He is near and He is with us. Lean on Him and He will comfort us.
…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Mt. 20:28)
May we learn to be united our pains and sorrows with God because He Himself experienced all of these tremendous things due to not being respected as a person by those people who accused Him of blasphemy. In His life He never complained and He was able to overcome it by the greatness of His love for us. We learn from Him because His love is much much larger than anything else in this world.
Let us love and respect our name and give justice to respecting each other’s name. Let us call out His Most Holy Name, asking help every time we are in pain, suffering and in danger. Call out His name so that we are saved and blessed with many good things.
