Vocations: a call to receive and to give life

With these words, the Lord Jesus reveals to us the mystery of the Christian vocation, and in particular the mystery of every vocation totally consecrated to God and the Church.  This vocation consists in being called to offer one’s life so that others may have life and have it abundantly.  This is what was done by Jesus, the model of everyone who is called and consecrated: “Lo, I have come to do thy will.” (Heb. 10:9; cf. Ps. 39:8).  And for this reason he gave his life, so that others might have life.

This is what must be done by every man or woman who is called to following Christ in total self-giving.

A vocation is a call to life: to receive it and give it.
